"Took out the RAT phones for
a field test yesterday, and they are awesome!"

"Rick, I received my new
Ratphones today and had a ball trying them out. Very
high quality, very comfortable and very clear
sound. I had tried several other headphones in the
same price point and had returned them for different
reasons such as fit, sound not clear, quality etc.
I was out hunting in my local park and met another
detector. I noticed the logo on his phones and he
showed them to me, praised them to the sky. and so I
went looking for them. I am thrilled with them
after only two hours of use. I will highly
recommend them. I am attending a special DFX Only
hunt in Ohio this weekend and can't wait to give
them a real trial. Thanks also for the quick
shipping." Ernie Kionke
"Got
out today to test out the new Ratphones and the
DX-1. All I can say is wow.... The new
Ratphones are the trick...very clear and crisp
sound." Ddi-Wash
"Hi Rick, I have been
using a pair of your single volume phones w/limiter
on my DFX for the last two months. These are, hands
down, the most comfortable headphones I have ever
worn. I love the fact that I can hear faint targets
without cranking the volume way up. I want to
repeat that statement over:
I love the fact that I can hear faint targets
without cranking the volume way up!
I also noticed that I can turn my Threshold volume
down lower than I ever could before (threshold at 4
for you DFX'rs). The sound clarity is just
amazing. Ratphones definitely compliment any
machine with Tone ID. As a matter of fact, the
clarity is so defined, I didn't realize how well the
DFX separates targets until I heard it through
Ratphones for the first time. Needless to say, I
spent the first few outings with my new Ratphones
re-learning my machine. I can't even imagine
detecting with another set of headphones now. My
father worked around heavy machinery for 42 years.
His hearing isn't what it used to be. Since I can
remember, he has always had an accessory amplifier
driving his headphones. When he started hunting
with the Ratphones, he no longer used the
amplifier. That has to say something about the
clarity there. I've had my DFX for five years and
for the first time I feel confident I have
everything I need to explore its true potential. In
my opinion, Ratphones are a detrimental key to
unlocking crucial Discriminatory Audio signals,
providing clear crisp feedback on deep or tiny
targets, and help maintain a stable setup for
maximum depth by actually hearing little audio
abnormalities in the background. You will never
know what your machine is capable of without a set
of Ratphones. Looks like I better pick up another
set for backup! Thank you for all you have done
Rick." James Owen
"Just
bought a pair from a buddy/dealer and tried them on my X5. I first
air tested the depth on some targets without the headphones plugged
in, then tried with the phones. it seemed like I got an extra 3-5"
or more when I plugged in the Rats! I had a pair of Koss 200's or so
before and don't think I really ever used phones designed for
detectors. I also tried out some [Other Brand] and could tell the
difference in how your Rats accentuated the whisper deep signals on
the X5. thanks Rick and can't wait to do some digging in the dirt!"

"Howdy Rick, thanks for that fast service. I got my phones Monday
morning and was very happy when I opened the box. The phones looked
great and I couldn't wait to get out and try them. I must say that
these phones are just awesome, I like the sound and especially like
the limiter. These phones made a huge difference in the time I
could spend before I get annoyed with getting my ears blown out by
shallow targets. They also impressed me with the amount of outside
noise they block. They are very comfortable to wear, sound greatand
I could actually hear the difference between a nickel and a pull
tab. I am pleased with the performance and also pleased with the
fast response to my order. Thanks again."-

"Rick, You have set the standard for headphones in the Metal
detecting Industry. The Ratphones have opened a new
world in metal detecting for me. The crispness and clarity
in your headphone is by far the best I have used. The fit
of the ear cups is outstanding. I have hunted with them for
as long as 4 hrs with no discomfort. Knowing that you hand
make every set yourself is a great relief to me. I trust
there operation and quality 100 %."
Tom Dube
"Rick, I got your phones late 2006 and I
love them. They are super comfortable and have great audio quality.
I have used them on two Fishers and a T2. The long, strong cord
stopped the problem of my detector constantly tipping over. I
ordered an extra cord, but after seeing how heavy duty they are, I
doubt that the original would ever fail. Thanks"

"I received the
RatPhones that I won in a contest a couple of weeks ago and I've just
now had a chance to put them to the test. I must say they are some high
quality phones! I've been loyal to my [other brand] for several years...I
really know their sound. I even tried a few other brands, but have
always gone back to the [other brand]. The Ratphones construction seems
to be a bit more solid and sound quality and pitch range were great. I
think the [other brand] are moving to backup status. If you are looking
for some new headphones, I'd strongly consider Rick's Ratphones! Thanks
Rick!" -Greg Toney (SCdigger)
"As most of you know I am very
picky about my headphones and have had trouble finding a pair to
suit me lately. Well I got a pair of
Rat phones from Rick at Detect USA a couple of
days ago and got to try them out today. These headphones are awesome!
I could tell the
difference in good/bad, deep/shallow and iron targets.
They knock out all of the surrounding noise and you can really hear the
deep small targets with them. I can honestly say that these phones are
as good if not better than some I've tried lately costing $100 and more.
Check 'em out because those of you that know me, know that I don't push
anything unless I am very satisfied with the product. Thanks Rick!"
-Randy Ives, Detectingfun.com
"I just got the new RatPhones, wanted to post my impression of them. As
far as volume they are comparable to any other top notch phones out
there. Where I found them really outstanding is in differentiating the
tones. The RatPhones did the best job of the phones that I currently
have of
separating tones between signals, or making different targets sound
different. You can really hear the difference, even compared to [other brand], which are outstanding in this regard. To rate them all I'd say:
#1. RatPhones - cheapest phones price wise, best tone separation of
anything I've heard so far. Top notch great value for the money. I'm planning to go with the RatPhones because of
their outstanding ability to differentiate tones. I
think they are excellent headphones. They are now my preferred
phones for detecting. I noticed that the signal differentiation on
them was much better than anything else I've used, and that includes
all the top brands. Thanks." -Ed Erdman
"Thanks for the prompt shipping, they look and fit great. I have
done a little air testing and my 6" quarter in my test bed rings
REAL NICE!!!! My old phones (now backups) just killed me, they
pinched my head and ears and after several hours would give me a
terrible headache These new headphones block out a lot more exterior
noise than I am used to, as much as my shooting muffs."
-Shawn Vickers
"Got the RAT phones
today and I was
very pleased with the design. Plugged 'em
into my Tejon- I LOVE the sound! I am impressed with
these phones! Super smooth audio with a pleasant tone, not "tinny"
at all like some of the other high end detecting headphones. Audio
is so clean, it allows my machine to pinpoint more precisely,
resulting in
more good targets dug. My Tejon speaks a rich language and the RAT
phones take full advantage. These phones seal out most all ambient
noise and are very comfortable- no fatigue problems here. I love
the fact that the coil
cord is replaceable. I like the way the phones fold up. The
warranty is outstanding. I have tried many other headphones,
including several audiophile models- the RAT is where it's at!"
-Kendal Kirsch
"Spent a
little over 1 hour on the beach ... found my usual clad but the main
reason was to give the RaTPhones a tryout. They worked as good if
not better than my [other brand], [other brand] and [other brand] headphones. I
especially liked the ear cups. They fit nice and snug around the ear
and no leaking of noise from the waves. They also were comfortable
with no ear fatigue or sweating. I was using the XLT. Thanks for a
good product" -JimC
"Wanted to let you know I got the RatPhones and
have tried them out and am very satisfied. Thanks for the quick
shipping and for a great product." -Jimmy bullock
"One word: Awesome! I use a White's DFX & I never knew
what I’d been missing. Literally! I picked up on targets/signals
that I was missing with the phones that came with the detector.
Also, the Ratphones fit great, (don't hurt my ears), and block
outside noise. The quality was evident as soon as I opened the
box. Maybe a coincidence, but, the first trip out I found the Bullet
Mold & "Block I" Button, in a very trashy site that I’ve been
hunting over the last few months. Thanks Rick. "
-Jeff Field
"I just got a pair of your RatPhones.... I believe I will like
them much better than the others I have been using. I like the
detachable cord... now I need only one set of headphones for all
my detectors. Previously I would grab a detector and headphones,
get onsite to find out I had the wrong set for that
detector. Not a problem now!" -John21
"Without a doubt, these are the best headphones I have used so
far!. And Rick, just want to say, well done, you put some good
thought into these phones. For the money, definitely the best
out there, in my opinion." -Dave Lester, Gold Nuggets
Metal Detector Sales and Prospecting Equipment
"These phones are awesome. Thank you... The
brand I used before yours were....Your phones smoke them all
the way around, tonal quality performance as well as
construction . I
definitely like yours the best.
I'm currently using a Minelab
Quattro."
-Bill Tracy
"I must say these are the most comfortable and best
headphones I have ever used. A real plus is the ability
to use them with the three different machines that I
use. A great product that I would highly recommend to
anyone! Thanks. "
-Steve Sosebee
"The second I put them on I knew these were going to be a
pleasure to wear. They fit perfectly. They are
comfortably light and don't slip off my head when I bend
over,, and the sound is crisp and clear. Can't get any
better than 20 to 20,000 Hz. Two excellent features are the
way they fold into a neat tight unit, plus the convenience
of a cord that can be disconnected. The individual volume
controls are a nice touch too. Thanks for a great product."
-Ray Dobos
"Received my Ratphones yesterday. I was able to use them
today. So that is what an MXT is supposed to sound like!
Great set of headphones well built and they really block
out the ambient sounds. I used them for about three
hours and had no discomfort. Thank You."
-Marty K
"I took delivery of my RaTPhones today, I must say they
are absolutely superb. I tried them on my Godmax, and
they pick out the coins from the coke brilliantly. I
can't see me using any other phones from now on. Thank you very much!"
-John W
"My "Limiter" Ratphones came today. I am very pleased with
them, and your good service. I rate you and your products A-1.
These phones are Great!!! The limiter works the best of any
I've tried. The new
volume controls are real high tech smooth and stay put in any
setting. I like them a lot. Of course with your great sound
quality and extended frequency (low tones) they are a real pleasure
to use. I predict these to become my main headphones.
I'll try them out tomorrow at place where I found a seated liberty
dime on Tuesday. Oh and Yes they do work on the Discovery Treasure
Baron! What more could I ask for? A Very Pleased Customer
-Richard
"Rick Received the RATS today. Tried them on my six land detectors,
best sound I have ever heard on a set of headphones. The detectors I
tried them on are: CZ 70, Explorer II, Troy X3, ID EDGE, X-TERRA 50
and Whites M6. Work great on all of them and sound to me seemed
perfect. Thanks for a great product."
-Frank in NH
"I just purchased a pair of
ratphones from a dealer here in Ontario, Canada...and I was so
impressed I just had to send you an e-mail and let you know.
These headphones give me the same quality sound as the "top
brand" set I already own...AND they are TWICE as comfortable...I
could wear these things to bed!! Couple that with the fact you
can swap cords...and we have a winner!
I'll
be buying a second set soon, just to have in the closet!
Keep
up the great work."
-Wess

"Thanks for the prompt shipment. I got them today and
they are everything I expected.. They are fantastic.
I've only used them for an hour or so and they are the
best I've ever used in thirty years of detecting.
I'm using a Tejon. I also have a Compass XL 100
and a Tesoro golden. Thanks again." -Ed Lee (R E)
"Thank you for your prompt attention to my order. As
soon as I opened the package I knew I made the right choice.
Quality!" - Don
"I Just wanted you to know that the RATs on my X-Terra 70
are truly delightful! If I run in all metal and let
the low tones respond to iron (no discrimination), it sounds
super neat. I like to run my machines with no
discrimination and with the noisy iron targets sounding so
cool it's easy to run for longer periods of time. Got my
first "Flying Eagle" this spring using the RATs."
- Richard N
"I have an adapter for my Infinium which allows
me to use the headphones of my choice when hunting on land. With these headphones, the clarity and the fidelity of the Infiniums audio signals is second to none! You can hear the
little nuances in the Infinium's two-tone signals, very
clearly. And this is of utmost importance to me because I
use them to help in ID'ing targets. These
nuances are produced when it detects different types of
targets. This is something that the manufacturer and users
of this machine never mention. Probably because it is a
strain (at best) to hear the nuances without high
quality headphones. But when you have good equipment
and spend the time to get familiar with it, you notice these
kind of things. With the Ratphones I can identify iron,
especially rusty iron, and corroded zinc pennies with very
good accuracy. (With the other phones I was using, 100 ohm
Koss phones, the nuances are VERY faint and very hard to
hear) Items that do not rust or corrode, such as gold and
silver, cause the Infinium to produce a standard, pure,
clean, two-tone signal. The benefit of using these
phones are many, and in this situation, the benefit
is quite obvious.
You weren't exaggerating about the new cord being so
good. It's outstanding! Nothing compares to it. A person
needs to see it and feel it in person, to fully appreciate
it's qualities. I've never liked a pair of
headphones as much as I do Ratphones, honestly. "
-Bill/WA
"I am using the single
volume control Ratphones with my new Minelab Explorer II.
The level of volume along with the accurate reproduction of
sounds the Explorer II produces is fantastic!"

Joe Labedzki
"Got the Rat Phones yesterday! Had a
chance to try them out today using a Tesoro
Cortes. They really work great! They
are light, comfortable, and the sound is crystal clear."
-Jeff- Hershey, PA
"I think that the tones were annoying to me over the
years using the Explorer with my other phones, like hot rock
& and open screen iron signals. They are a bit softer now
with the Rats, and the sounds are a bit more pleasant to
listen to during extended hours or detecting." -
John S
"I used my Ratphones with the limiter
last Saturday with my Whites GMT and today with my
Whites MXT. I like the limiter option for those two
detectors. Neither the GMT or the MXT have a volume
control and the limiter reduces the loud blasts from
large shallow targets. It makes a big difference. It
was helpful on the GMT because you can ran into a lot of
unexpected large iron junk while prospecting. The
limiter works well on the MXT while pinpoint shallow
targets. I tried the Ratphones without the limiter
[that I also own] on the MXT and the noise can be
controlled to a certain extent with the volume controls,
but the limiter makes the detector much more enjoyable
to use. I am real happy with the headphones and glad
that I have them. The headphones are comfortable to wear
and produce a pleasant tone and sound. You have made a
fine high quality useful product for the hobby.
I have always used Koss headphones in the past.
They are a good product, but Ratphones are much
better. I will be saving the Koss for backup."-

Sovereign note:
We have plenty of great reports with Minelab machines. Only the on
the Sovereign is where we noticed less crispness.
The user will hear more bass and perceive this
as less bright. We have a
cure called the Sov mod. See the Ratphones tab for more info.
X-Terra note:
We have noticed on the X-terra that when listened to with wide range
headphones, such as Koss or Ratphones, you can hear a slight hum in
the background on the mid tones. This is the machine, not the
headphones. You can buy narrow response headphones but then all your
sounds will be poor, or select the Sov mod when you order. This will
attenuate the circuitry noise.
